The total area coverage of Bhutan is sq km, but the distance from the southern foothills to the majestic Himalayas is very short and hence the climate, flora and fauna differs vastly in a relatively short distance as we move up. Elephants and tigers in the south, white bellied herons and red pandas in the central forests and snow leopards and Takins in the freezing north, Bhutan's biodiversity is formidable.
